Name: Nina
Job Title: Receptionist
What exactly is that?
An administration job
How did you get there?
I had a few previous administration skills. However I mainly got the job through my sister working for the company and having a good connection with the staff at my interview!
Describe a typical day for you
I usually prise my eyelids open at about 7am, do all the necessary morning routine and set off to work, via train at 8am. I will almost never have a sit down breakfast, always eating toast or rice cakes as I go out the door.
I will then work from 9-6pm, tackling any task I am given but the main majority of my day is answering calls, queries, booking meetings and office maintenance. All morning I think of lunch but it is almost always a boring meal deal from Sainsburys. Hobbies include theatre rehearsals on a Monday and Thursday.
What’s the best thing about what you do?
The people I work with make me laugh every day
What’s the one thing you would change if you could?
Not to do the mindless jobs that no one else in their right mind would do
What did you want to do for a living when you were at school?
The dream was to be an actor or at least working backstage at a theatre
Tell us about one thing you were insecure about when you were at school
I was always insecure about whether or not I was good enough. The only way this ever changed was through a teacher sitting down and discussing progress or problems, both academically and personally.
What advice would you give yourself at 18 if you could?
I would say that everyone doubts if they are good at what they are doing. Even the most confident children are just muddling through everyday life. You can only ever achieve something if you believe in yourself. Prove those teachers wrong who think you can’t do something, use that as your motivation. Work hard and don’t let social politics of school distract you from your full potential.
What’s your favourite thing to do in your spare time?
Go to the theatre. It is an eye opening way of looking at the world we live in. It’s also the only place where you can truly escape from the outside world.
